German-American School is a part-time, once a week after school program dedicated to teaching children German.

We have classes for children as of age 4 (Playgroup) to age l7 (Advanced Placement in German). Our program ends after l0 years with the following mandatory exams: AATG level 3 or 4, REX (Regents Equivalency Exam for credit in public High Schools). Optional exams: Zertifikat Deutsch als Fremdsprache (administered under the auspices of the Deutsche Haus at NYU), Advanced Placement German (possibility of College Credit if the grade is level 4 or 5).

Finally: for children that speak German at home and are fluent in German we recommend Deutsche Sprach Diplom I or II

The following mandatory exams conclude our l0-year program:

• AATG level 3
• REX (Regents Equivalency Exam) starting June 2011

Optional exams:

• Zertifikat Deutsch als Fremdsprache
• Advanced Placement in German (for College credit if the grade is 4 or 5)
• Sprachdiplom I or II for children who qualify to take it.

German Language Class

Our teachers must be bilingual (German/English) and be familiar with the American school system and its grading and assessment standards.

Requirements:

• College or equivalent degree from either a US College/University or an equivalent institution overseas.
• Experience teaching children.
• Must be a US citizen or in possession of Green Card
• Submit three references from previous emloyers

Current openings

Teachers at all levels for the schools in Manhattan, Ridgewood, Garden City and Franklin Square (for these two locations a car is required).
